FAQ’s

What does the custom designing process look like?

We have a Custom Design Inquiry Form here for you to fill online if you are looking to revamp some jewelry. After filling out the form we will text you from (757) 275 - 3131 to begin the process of creating your vision. You can also come into the store at anytime to work with our knowledgeable team on your piece.

By phone, you will work alongside Jessica by sending pictures and ideas to her. She will guide you through to the end! The time frame of design to picking up your piece varies based on how long it takes to concrete the idea.

The most common design we see right now is removing a stone from an antique family ring and setting it east to west on a pendant necklace.

For custom wedding pieces such as an engagement ring or band see our Bridal catalog as the process of picking an engagement ring different components than the other work we do.

Do you do appraisals?

Yes! We recommend you ensure your pieces. Your insurer will require a current appraisal of insurance valued by a GIA certified appraiser. Our jeweler has been certifying people's treasures for 30+ years and his appraisals are accepted by every underwriter.

Jewelry can usually be appraised by having the items graded and measured while you wait. If not, we will take the piece in for a couple hours to get the specs and then our jeweler will write it up.. The appraisal is ready within a couple of days!

Do you do jewelry cleanings? How much do you charge?

Yes! We are always happy to check your jewelry for you and clean it. Quick visual inspections are free and done while you wait. Ultrasonic cleaning, inspection, rhodium, and any necessary tightening starts at $10 per item.

What is the difference between earth-grown and lab-grown (Cultured) Diamonds?

GIA has been grading laboratory-grown diamonds since 2007. Lab-grown diamonds are developed in a controlled lab setting under the same circumstances as earth grown diamonds. Lab diamonds consist of carbon atoms that contain the diamond crystal structure. They are made of the same material as earth diamonds, have the same well-known diamond brilliance, and have the same chemical properties. Lab Diamonds are 100% a diamond and will test as one while using a diamond tester.

The difference: there is no diamond mining involved in cultured diamonds so they can be viewed as a more sustainable source for diamonds. Due to the way they are formed, cultured diamonds offer incredible value. They are more cost-effective compared to a earth grown diamond of similar carat, cut, color, and clarity. Can I bring my jewelry to you for maintenance and repairs?

Yes! Just like your car, you should have your jewelry inspected on a regular basis. The metal that holds the stones (prongs) in your rings, bracelets or necklaces can wear with time. Repairs are usually simple when the wear is spotted early. We are always happy to check your jewelry for you, whether that is a quick free inspection or a more in-depth annual inspection. Our store refers to this maintenance as a CCP - Clean, Check, Polish. If you have 14K white gold jewelry we recommend you add rhodium to the list as it will make your jewelry will look brand new!

We can do repairs of all types. Soldering a broken chain, taking out links in a watch band, watch batteries, replacing a missing stone, rebuilding prongs, etc. Bring it into the store so we can help repair your favorite pieces!

How can I clean my jewelry at home?

You can do a lot to help keep your gold and platinum jewelry bright and sparkly at home. Regular cleaning with a mild soap and running water will remove dirt and oils. An old toothbrush is an excellent tool for doing this. After cleaning the jewelry, place it (still wet) on a dish towel and put a palm full of baking soda on it. Scrub the baking soda over the jewelry with the wet toothbrush and your fingers. Remember, this process will not scratch your jewelry as baking soda is non-abrasive. Rinse well in running warm water and pat dry on a towel. If the items need more cleaning, bring them to us for processional service!
